The holiday season can be a great time of celebration and it can also be a lonely time when people feel isolation and poverty more acutely. So we are thrilled to have so many partners who work with us to support families in a positive and proactive manner to ensure safe spaces for children to experience the season and parents to feel empowered and supported.
On Friday, Dec. 16th we partnered up with Safe City Mississauga, the YMCA, Recreation Youth and Young Adults, the Region and City to hold our annual Seasonal Celebration. Many thanks to the Peel Regional Police for providing the gifts that each and every child received, and to Longo’s and the Dundas/Winston Churchill Mr. Sub for their provision of healthy and tasty food for the celebration. The smiles we saw on the faces of children, youth and their families warmed all of our hearts. Thank you.
We are also grateful to our MP, Iqra Khalid, for hosting a local toy drive and working with EMYC to distribute these gifts to children around the area. We were excited to be able to use these gifts to reach more children in our community, and to support the efforts of Garthwood Park Public School and Christ the King Catholic Elementary School in showing tangible care and love to families in the community.
As we head into 2017 EMYC looks forward to working with many more partners as we support and empower youth to advocate for themselves and their community in order to create a brighter future.
